Questions, answered plainly
- Is Mantel free?
- Yes. No token gate, no required fees. Burning and account cleanup show an optional tip you can uncheck; everything else costs only Solana's network fees, a fraction of a cent per transaction.
- Can Mantel touch my NFTs?
- No. Mantel never holds keys or assets. Every action is a transaction built in your browser and signed by your own wallet; nothing moves without your approval, and you can read every transaction in your wallet before signing.
- Where does the SOL from burning come from?
- Every NFT minted on Solana deposited rent for its on-chain accounts, roughly 0.002 to 0.008 SOL per piece. Burning a piece closes those accounts and refunds the deposit to the holder. Compressed NFTs (most airdropped spam) made no deposit, so burning them is cleanup only.
- Could I accidentally burn something valuable?
- Anything with a recorded sale or a live floor worth more than its rent is refused outright, not warned about, and nothing featured on your page can burn. Before you sign you see every NFT with its thumbnail, the rent coming back, the fees going out and the net either way, and anything our spam filter never flagged is marked. Then you still have to type BURN.
- What are the empty accounts on my wall worth SOL?
- Every token you ever held created a small on-chain account with rent locked inside. When the token is gone the account sits empty but keeps the deposit. Closing empty accounts destroys nothing, cannot touch your art, and refunds the rent.
- Could closing accounts hit a memecoin, a Saga token, or a stake account?
- No. Only accounts holding exactly zero are ever selected, so anything with a balance, from memecoins to a Seeker Genesis token to wrapped SOL, never appears in the list. Stake accounts live outside the token program entirely and are invisible to the scan. And independently of Mantel's filter, the Solana Token program refuses to close any account that still holds something.
- Why did a burn ask me to deposit SOL first?
- Deep spam trees need more proof data than one transaction can hold, so the burn stages accounts in a temporary lookup table. Creating that table requires a rent deposit into an account you own; it is not a fee, and your wall offers a reclaim button that closes the table and refunds it a few minutes later.
- How do trades stay safe without a middleman?
- A trade settles as one transaction containing both sides' transfers, and it only executes with both wallets' signatures. Your counterpart's signature is verified against a transaction your own browser rebuilds from the agreed list, so nobody can swap in different terms. Nothing settles partially: either the whole trade happens or nothing does.
- What happens when I buy a listed piece?
- Buying opens a trade room preloaded with your SOL against the piece at its asking price. The seller signs their side, you sign yours, and the swap settles in one atomic transaction. Mantel never holds the piece or the money.
- Does sending support .sol names and usernames?
- Yes. Send to a raw address, a .sol name, or a Mantel @username. The recipient resolves before you confirm, with a Solscan link to double-check.
- What is the Founder badge?
- The first 100 walls to claim a name and hang five pieces of real art keep a permanent row on the homepage, above every other feed. The badge sits on your wall with your number. There is more planned for the hundred, and holding the badge is how you qualify for it. One per person; pieces count once, so the same art cannot earn a second badge.
- What does Mantel see about my wallet?
- Only what is public on chain, read through an indexer. Signing in proves you control a wallet; it grants Mantel no spending power of any kind.
